Actually, I know next to nothing about it, but it seems a lot of people have all sorts of problems - until they "nomount" the damned thing. Anyway, I've never met devfs before in my linux-career (RedHat, Debian and Mandrake 7.0 --> 8.1). Never missed it !
As for your question : I'll forward it to the list. It's not in my man-pages, so maybe some people know what it's supposed to do ? I'm glad you figured out how to edit things. Here's how I do it : Open a terminal-window --> type "su" --> type your root-password --> type "mc" (suppose you have "Midnight Commander" installed - it's a very nifty file-manager a la Norton Commander) --> highlight the file in question --> press F4 to edit. When done, press F2 to save the file and then F10 to quit "Midnight Commander". Then, if the file is "/etc/lilo.conf", remember to run "lilo" - otherwise your changes get unnoticed. Enjoy !
