I have a few questions. First of all, let me say that I do not mean to
*slam* anyone. I am only trying to figure out the standard procedure for
this list. There is much diversity in place of a standard going around,
not only on this list, but in the world in general. This is one of the
factors that led me to use Linux. Although it is far from standardized,
it seems that the Linux community is at least making an honest effort to
define and set some standards. Sometimes this means hearing the groans
of growing pains. I think that is what is happening on this list. I have
heard a few people *demand that everyone follow their standard, but I
have yet to hear very much in the way of credentials, or an explanation
why. Several times I have asked *why* and gotten cursed out. A few
people have *tried* to ridicule me, but were not successful (in my
understanding), because they quite simply, didn't make any sense to me.
Perhaps their insult was over my head, but they should have taken into
consideration that this is a *newbie* list. I have also gotten replies
insinuating that I had been insulting. I usually post in the same tone
that the previous post was in. However, I will not resort to calling
names, posting with lots of CAPS or ad hominem, no matter what. I am now
verbally walking on eggshells, so as not to offend anyone. My questions
are just questions. If I ask a question it means that I want to know
something. There is no hidden agenda. These are just some things I
thought were worth considering, in the interest of communicating more
effectively. Maybe I've got it all wrong. If so, it would be nice to
hear someone explain it to me in rational terms.

These types of
> >messages should be addressed directly to the individuals you are wanting to
> >communicate this information NOT to the LIST.
> >
> >This is what gives this LIST a BLACK EYE in PROFESSIONALISM.
-------------------------------------
I have asked this before, but gotten no reasonable explanation. What has
this list got to do with professionalism? This is not a rhetorical
question! I really want to know.
-----------------------------------------------
 Most of the
> >info asked for is received with the intent of assisting.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Assisting what? Is it strictly for addressing technical issues? I have
heard many contradictory opinions on that one lately. If so what
constitutes a technical issue?
----------------------------------------------------------
 If you want to
> >have this type of discussion then create your own Mail List for that and
> >let those of us that want to learn our systems to the best of our abilities
> >to this List.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By what authority do you declare this? again I am not trying to be coy,
but seriously, why should I listen to your denmands as opposed to all
the others who say just the opposite? I can't follow two directly
opposite paths. The best I can do is listen to all sides and choose the
most logical one. If anyone wants people to follow their instructions,
perhaps it would be in their interest to present their case more
clearly.
