Hey all,
I'm having a problem setting up my ActionTec PCI
call-waiting modem on the new Mandrake Linux 8. It's
an internal 56k modem using COM5 on Windows, and it's
configured on IRQ 9. When I've used Mandrake 6.1, I
could set it up using /dev/ttyS4 as /dev/modem (I
followed the instructions for Red Hat 6 given me by
the ActionTec manual), but I've never been able to set
it up on anything else (Mandrake 7.2, Suse 7.1,
Mandrake 8.0). KPPP tells me that the modem is "busy"
when I do "Query Modem" under setup. I know that I
couldn't enable sound under Mandrake 6.1 because my
Yamaha 724 DS-1 audio card also uses IRQ 9. I'm not
sure if that's the complete problem, though, as I have
kept the sound card from being found in both Mandrake
7.2 and Suse 7.1, but my modem still didn't work in
either of these distros. Has anyone else had this
problem? I'd appreciate any help I could get on this
issue. Thanks in advance.
