but it still doesn't work. When I select "Restore Module" taper does not
resond I cannot exit (same as with mt -f /dev/st0). And when I check the
status of the process, it again says "down".

try using Taper.
as root use this command.
taper -T st0
thats the program I use for my tape drive and it works fine.
