Andy:
If you haven't been there, try www.mandrakeuser.org/docs/index.html and run a 
search on touchpad. There are several articles, one them specific 
to Dell portables. If that doesn't help, there's always Google.

I assume that you've tried the manufacturer and came up empty. If so, you 
have run into a common problem with Linux: A lot of manufacturers do not 
furnish Linux support in any form. They do this for a variety of reasons -- 
the market is too small, they are afraid of open source (after all, it is a 
cancer),  whatever. Although a lot of progress has been made within the Linux 
community at closing the gap, writing the necessary OS drivers often requires 
reverse engineering, and that is now a felony in the land of the free.
