The modem I am using is a GVC external modem connected to the com2 port. I also have

connecting my computer to my brother's. This lan has been used to pass files, play

and to backup my system on to a CD. My computer has no CD writer. I have tried

First of all why are you using KPPP (which is modem dial-up) with a NIC, if
you have one-way Cable, DSL, ADSL, ISDN, then yes...but if your Net connect is
2-way cable, DSL, etc...you don't use KPPP.
Second, have you installed the FAX RPM from your CD?

When I try to use kppp to connect to the internet, I receive a message
pppd is unable to find the secret (password). I have an ethernet card
and use the local network gui when I installed Mandrake 7.0. The only
way I was able to contect to the internet was to use netcfg while I was
in root.
