As some of you know, I'm having problems with vim and have decided to just re-install a good version. I found the RPM and used RPM to un-install it, but the executable is still there and some other files. Are these at a state I can just delete them and the program is un-installed? I also have the install for the newest vim, supposably, but after I un-tarball it, do I put the directory structure someplace before I run make? Is there a better place than others? Should I do the whole make and make install as root? The directions with the software didn't say specifically and the original installation was not very helpful to begin with. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you all, sorry I'm becoming a pest, unemployment and a shortage of knowledge are so frustrating. Anyone know of a good command line linux teaching book? I don't have any gui installed, or if I do, I didn't want it. I'd rather not bog down my already slow machine.
