Thanks so much to all of you for your help.

OK, I feel like an idiot. But, you all know (putting on my Chinese wise
man hat :) if you fail to get past the first step of a set of
instructions (no matter how simple), you'll never get to the next step.
(Taking off his Chinese wise man hat in embarrassment :)

I was copying a menu item from Utilities I to the higher-level KDE menu
instead of to the Utilities II menu. That's all it was. Create a
submenu, then open one submenu, copy, then open another submenu and
paste it into the submenu, not the big menu itself.

And that's all, folks!!!
