[newbie] X Freezes My Mandrake 7.2 Comp

Whenever Mandrake 7.2 loads X is completely freezes, I can't switch between desktops or restart. My video cards are an ATI Rage II and a Voodoo2. Anyone have any idea on why this might be happening and how I can fix it?
