Is the device mounted? if you don't have supermount,
you have to manually mount it.

I am having problems with my floppy disk and was wondering whether anyone
had encountered this previously or whether anyone knew of a fix for it.
WHen I try to access my floppy under a console window using a cd command I
get the following error:
