I'd disagree. Most users will never install their own operating system. It'll either be already included on the computer when they buy it, or they'll pay someone to reinstall should they ever seriously screw up their computer. Now with Linux it would be more important, since most people will

I don't know if you have your X-windows configured yet but give this a shot and let us know what happens, at the command line type "startx" without the quotes. If it gives you error messeges e-mail here at the [newbie] list and we'll help you get your X configured. Don't worry you havent done
