[newbie] Lynx doesn't run

When I try running Lynx from the console, I get a message, "Metamail: Can't open temporary file!" It even happened if I uninstalled metamail. What's up with that, I can't use X-Windows because my system is too slow, so I want to use the good old text browser. Can
