This seems to work for Win 2k Pro:
Go to Control panel Administrative Tools Local Security Policy.
Now to Security Settings Local Policies Security Options Send
unencrypted password to third party SMB servers. Set to Enabled. I believe
a reboot is necessary.

You need to make a simple registry change. Do a search for samba.reg
