Well it appears as if the install worked fine except that my sound card
doesn't work. I have no idea what could be wrong with it as this is the
first time i have ever worked with linux... please someone i need some
help!

Log on as root and in a shell type
You should also open kmixer (or whichever mixer app you prefer) and make sure
your speaker volume is turned up, as well as CD volume - these are often set
very low by default - CD volume sometimes is off completely.
