look in the start up scripts ..its probably set to xinit instead of kdm, or
gdm or just plain old xdm...

What class of install did you select? I had the same problem. If you
select to install as a server, eventhough you select the KDE and Gnome
packages, it will not automatically set them up for you. Here is what I did:
Choose "expert" and choose "normal" when asked about install classes. then
