Back up what is already on the partition, split the partition up, restore the windows stuff back on the partition you set up for it. Some people swear by Partition Magic, it allegedly can resize your partitions non-destructively. You may want to look into it. I know a limited version of it

There are any number of utils to partition a hard drive non-destructively. The ONLY one I have ever had any experience with is Partition Magic, a commercial util that comes bundled with Mandrake and (I've heard/read) with Caldera Open Linux. I've heard of one that is in the /dos_utils directory
