Believe it or not, Linux is just as easy.

Simply enable DHCP (not dhcpd) for your eth0 interface, reboot, and you're
online!

You'll notice that your machine's name will change after the reboot.

Subject: [newbie] Problem configurate network with cable modem

Hello,

I am having problem not knowing the proper way of setting up the cable modem
network on Mandrake. It is so much easier with Windows, all I need to do is
input the hostname and workgroup(@home), and the DHCP will take care the
rest. On the other hand, I have no idea what, where, how to put the network
information in Mandrake. All I know is using the linuxconf and put in the
hostname and dhcp, I don't even know where to put or if I should the
workgroup name(@home) or the fully qualify domain name (frml1.home.com.)

Thanks to whoever that lends a helping hand to this newbie.
