Sorry I'm not a guru, but I can TRY to help you. As the 'automagical' tools don't seem to work, you should try to configure your card 'by hand' : first, you have to load the apropriate driver of your card into the kernel. As I never worked with 3com cards, I couldn't tell you wich one you have
