Hi, I've been spending 2 weeks trying to install my 3Com 3CXe589E PCMCIA
ETHERNET CARD on a TOSHIBA 2500CDS with MANDRAKE 7.0, and just can't do it.
FIRST, at linux installation (when it asks if you want to configure the
net),it recognizes the card and actually it is supposed to make it work in
the pcmcia services ARE running right?

You have discovered the answer to your own question!
Use kpackage to open the RPM for the kernel you have installed and you can read
it for yourself.
Install the kernel marked kernel-2.2.14-15mdk.i586.rpm instead.
