What have you set the IPs as?  I use 198.168.0.1 for my Windows box, and
198.168.0.2 for my Linux box.  In both cases set the net mask to
255.255.255.0.  Then just make sure to turn of WINS and DNS on the Win
box and it should run smoothly.
