After many tweaks, suggestions, and more tweaks, what worked is
switching to Redhat 7.3, which supports the 7500 with no trouble (picked
up in the install program actually) and I think supports the 8500 as
well. If anyone else has trouble with this card, you may want to try
this distribution. Th

I've got a real newbie question for the list:
Trying to get X working, and get a black screen upon
entering "XFree86 -xf86config /(path)/XF86Config.new".
It seems as if the monitor is receiving a signal out
of spec. This is a new install on a mixed heritage
machine.

OmiGOdNess!
I recently ran xf86cfg (screen still blanks then sounds standbyishly
crackly, but I can C-A-F1, C-A-F2 etc to change to virtual consoles), and
then when I retried the xf86cfg command it said the server was already
running on Screen 8! Yeay!
So my only problem now see

Hi,
When I try
to start X, I only got a blank screen instead of the
X cursor and the grey screen. The keyboard seems to be alive,
ctrl-alt-delete
works, but ctrl-alt-backspace does not work. Note that I start X from a
serial console.
It seems that DDX never try to create the cursor. Any
kdeinit: Can't connect to the X Server.
What do I do now ... ?

I just completed an install of XFree86 4.2.0 from source. Everthing
seemed to go well for quite
a while. I did all the following:
1. Added "/usr/X11R6/bin" to my path
2. Added "/usr/X11R6/lib" to my /etc/ld.so.conf file and executed
"ldconfig"
3. Created a XF86Config file and mov

How does the user relationship work?
I am set as the user that started the install at the moment. I have NT
admin rights so does that mean that i have su rights at all?
How do i change to root as well if i'm not set as root? Is there an admin
program ro something.
