I am not sure about FreeBSD. But most of the distributions have mtools or something
like this. This will read the MSDOS file format. I believe you will have to do this
from a command prompt.

You seem to be mixing up X 3.3.6 (SVGA) and X 4.x.x (There the standard -regrettably
non
accelerated- driver is vesa)
You stand a good chance of being even more amazed if you don't decide which version
you are
running and take the relevant drivers for that version...

I have tried to install Redhat Linux 7.2 and 7.3 w/ XFree86 4.2 onto my
Compaq Presario 2800 laptop. During the installation, I got no problem
with the screen, but after the installation, from the graphical login
screen and onwards, the screen got screwed up. There are vertical bars

using Arial and Verdana, but I have no luck at all with the Luxi
fonts: no antialiasing takes place for them and no amount of fiddling
with XftConfig seems to do any good.

I ALWAYS use Xconfigurator for X config'. If I am having trouble with
video chip/monitor, select 'custom' monitor, NO to standarsd setup,
select 800x600 60 Hz (usually the 1st one OFF the bottom of the
selection window), then select only
