I have the same problem with the backspace as well as VT switching.. it's all
livable with, except my pointer problem is a touch annoying, but looks like

According to /usr/include/asm/errno.h
111 reads: ECONNREFUSED /* Connection refused */
A little dependant on how the X-server is started. Ensure
that your login directory have a .Xauthority file. Never worked
with the Debian distribution. People more acquainted with Debian
can probably help
I have a brand-new Dell Dimension 2300 with a brand-new install of RedHat
8.0, and I cannot get X running. The video is an Intel 845 with 32MB of
RAM, and the monitor is a KDS VS-70. I have tried every combination of
video driver and monitor selection that remotely makes sense.

the answer is upgrade the X software. Pull the X software that is available via
the CVS tree. If you have all the required libraries loaded you should be able
to just do a "make World"

Although I have no fear of building from a CVS checkout, I have had enough
experience doing that that I do have a couple of questions. Since this is
a Redhat new install, all the X stuff exists as RPM-installed stuff. I
just did "rpm -qa | grep

then just installed the version I built. it appeared as if all the
important directories were overwritten with the new version and everything
worked.

BIOS only supports 640x480 mode. I had encountered another site that told
me to change the BIOS parameter to allocate 8MB for video, but the BIOS

Well I use RedHat 8.0 but it looks at a quick glance that either your
video card or monitor is set wrong. I would think monitor at a quick
glance.
