I'd definately recommend upgrading to XFree86 4.2.0.

No. Cygwin/XFree86 needs quite a bit of extra work to support this mode

Sounds like your chip isn't supported by the S3 driver in 4.x. Whereas
RH 7.2 on your machine may well have been using 3.3.6.
This seems to be stinging quite a few people with S3 cards.
The quick fix, is to modify your XF86Config file and change the
line that says.
Driver "s3"

Not necessarily. Depending if you need features from 4.x, like RENDER

For the FireGL 3000 you need to use the busID of the Delta chip. Don't
specify any other chip as the driver claims the rest of them anyway for
it's use.
So you should have
Section "Device"
.
.
Driver "glint"
BusID "0
> BusID "0:11:1" (or whatever your delta busID is)
Whoops.
That should be
BusID "PCI:0:11:1" (or whatever your delta busID is)

You've not loaded the agpgart module for linux. Do
modprobe agpgart
and then look at the kernel messages with 'dmesg' to check that agpgart
is loaded. Then try re-starting X.
