I'd try to install XF863.36 and 4.20 both in one pc.Now when I use startx,the 3.36
starts and XFree86 for 4.20,But I can do nothing in 4.20 because these is
nothing,need I modify some file?I use RH7.3.

You could try the option NoZap in the server flags section. This

Just try XFree86 -configure and you will get a file named XF86Config.new in your
home dir.Cp it as your new /etc/X11/XF86Config,then startx.
BTW,it seemed that you XFree86 is 3.3.6 instead of 4.2.0.
Bakup your file first...
