I had exactly the same problem when I installed Potato, and for exactly the
same reason - I had i810 videocard. Following the advices I got from this
mailing list, I ended up installing Woody (the "unstable" version of debian),
and it worked fine.
I'm not sure if this is useful, because I'm a newbie just like you...
hopefully, it is.
