We will continue to discuss our voter protection
experiences from before and on Election Day, and
how we can most effectively proceed with policy,
legislative and voter education improvements.

To lead our discussion, we are fortunate to be
joined by Mark Crispin Miller, a distinguished
professor and voting rights advocate:

Mark Crispin Miller is a Professor of Media,
Culture and Communication at New York University.
He is the author of several books, including
Boxed In: The Culture of TV; The Bush Dyslexicon:
Observations on a National Disorder; Cruel and
Unusual: Bush/Cheney's New World Order and Fooled
Again: The Real Case for Electoral Reform. He is
also the editor of Loser Take All: Election Fraud
and the Subversion of Democracy, 2000-2008. His
essays and articles have appeared in many
journals, magazines and newspapers throughout the
nation and the world, and he has given countless
interviews worldwide.

Professor Miller's blog, News From Underground,
was (and continues to be) an excellent source of
news on legislation, litigation, and other voting
rights issues throughout the recent election
campaign.

Miller is the editor of Icons of America, a book
series published by Yale University Press. (His
own contribution to the series, a book about the
Marlboro Man, will be published by YUP in 2009).
Miller's 2004 off-Broadway show, A Patriot Act,
performed at the New York Theater Workshop, is
available on DVD
(<http://www.patrionation.us/>www.patrionation.us).

Miller earned his bachelor's degree from
Northwestern University in 1971, and his
doctorate in English from Johns Hopkins
University in 1977. Although he specialized in
Renaissance literature, Miller is best known as a
media critic. Before joining New York University,
Miller served as director of film studies at
Johns Hopkins University.

Professor Miller will talk about the need to keep
working for election reform, despite
President-elect Obama's victory - and the fact
that several million of our fellow citizens were
still disenfranchised in this last election.

Please bring your suggestions, questions, colleagues and friends.

The New York Democratic Lawyers Council is a
project of the New York State Democratic Party
and a chapter of the National Democratic Lawyers
Council.

We are a coalition of lawyers and others
dedicated to fostering universal participation
and trust in the electoral process by ensuring
that:

· All eligible persons can easily register to vote,

· All registered voters are able to vote
simply, fairly, and without intimidation, and

· All votes are counted and all voting systems are open and reliable.

The Minority Voting Rights Committee addresses
voting rights issues that have a high impact on
minority communities, particularly those racial
and ethnic groups that have previously
experienced or are currently experiencing
disenfranchisement, to ensure that minority
voters, including new citizens, are granted fair
access to the polls, and to ensure preservation
of the principles of the Voting Rights Act.
