*From Dick Atlee:*
*Mike Cernovich, an investigative reporter and documentary producer, duginto the facts behind a New York Times article alleging that part of thereason Trump is touting chloroquine as a COVID-19 treatment is that he ownsstock in Sanofi, the drug company that patented chloroquine. He publishedhis findings on his website in a very succinct short article that consistsmostly of two screenshots of Trumps financial disclosures and a few2nd-grade math calculations: Trump owns between $29 and $435 of Sanofi Stock April 7, 2020 https://www.cernovich.com/sanofi-and-trump/ <https://www.cernovich.com/sanofi-and-trump/>Summing it up, Mike found that Trump has somewhere between $1000 and$15,000 in a mutual fund, of which Sanofi makes up 2.9%, for a totalinterest in Sanofi of between $29 and $435. And the drug is off patent, soSanofi can't make any money off of it.It's this kind of straightforward research that so often pulls the curtainaway from mainstream mislead. But now there are a host of NYT readers whonow believe Trump is stereotypically pushing a drug so he can make moneyfrom it, which will make it all the harder for that drug to begin to cutinto the virus death rate. Two days later, Mike gave an interview to The Highwire:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm9sD2WGx_Q <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jm9sD2WGx_Q>in which he described this. He also raised the fact that the mainstreamnews always talks about chloroquine as "untested" (despite decades oftrivial use) and never mentions the concept of "off-label use" (forCOVID-19 instead of the licensed anti-malarial purpose) which characterizesso many drugs.Nothing fake news about any of this. The only problem was that Mike hadalso made a documentary on the "mainstream-media-as-fake-news" issue called"Hoax", which was available on Amazon:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085LZM4YQ <https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085LZM4YQ>trailer: https://youtu.be/vBiaVap_Ngs <https://youtu.be/vBiaVap_Ngs>"HOAXED is an insider's look at the Fake News phenomenon and theconsequences of media misinformation, with interviews from those who havebeen accused of spreading it themselves."After The Highwire interview, Amazon suddenly cut off sales of the film andis reported to have started removing it from the Kindles of purchasers.https://www.cernovich.com/hoaxed-movie-has-been-banned-by-amazon/ <https://www.cernovich.com/hoaxed-movie-has-been-banned-by-amazon/>It is now apparently the best-selling video on iTunes, or was at one point. So there is a happy ending to Mike's part of the story. But what does it say about the New York Times? And about Jeff Bezos'sAmazon? And the connection between them? And the larger picture of theconflict between those who want to prolong the lockdown and those who sayits cost/benefit ratio is not what is claimed?* -- If you appreciate News From Underground, please consider making a donation — either a one-time gift or a monthly subscription: http://markcrispinmiller.com/support/ Thank you for your support.
