[25] pre-match anthem
---------------------------------
Posted Monday, April 8, 2002 by bar-knee:
Those of you following progress on the forum will know that a pre-kick off anthem for
home games has been suggested with many Reds fancying The Red Flag.

The club may even play it before kick off on Wednesday - so get these words printed
off, and copy them off to mates...basically spread the word.

United's flag is deepest red,
It shrouded all our Munich dead,
Before their limbs grew stiff and cold,
Their heart's blood dyed it's ev'ry fold.

Then raise United's banner high,
Beneath it's shade we'll live and die,
So keep the faith and never fear,
We'll keep the Red Flag flying here.

We'll never die, we'll never die,
We'll never die, we'll never die,
We'll keep the Red flag flying high,
'Cos Man United will never die

so this Becks story makes the PA newsdesk

'David Beckham has reportedly spent £150,000 on a heavily-armoured Mercedes that can
withstand gunfire. It has inch-thick windows, a reinforced floor and an airtight
passenger compartment in case of a gas attack. The unusual additions to the car have
been made to protect his wife Victoria and son Brooklyn.'

[21] Giggs helps UNICEF campaign
---------------------------------

'Ryan Giggs has launched a Unicef campaign to prevent landmines from killing children.

The winger unveiled a poster close to Old Trafford showing two handprints and a
footprint of a boy who had a leg blown off by a landmine.

The poster is one of hundreds going on display across the country.

Giggs, who has visited Unicef projects in Thailand, said: "As a footballer I can't
imagine life without the use of one of my legs.

"Sadly this is exactly what happens to thousands of children every year when they
accidentally step on a landmine.

"It often occurs when they are out playing in the fields and before they know it their
lives are in tatters."

The billboard poster is of the prints of Candilo, a nine-year-old Angolan child, who
last year had his leg blown off by a landmine. The youngster was trying to keep up
with his older brother as they raced home and he trod on a mine.

Unicef runs education programmes for children and communities on how to avoid
landmines as well as providing physiotherapy and prosthetic limbs to those who have
survived accidents.

A Unicef spokesman said every day 26 children tread on landmines in wartorn areas
across the world.

People who want to support the campaign can get more information on the Unicef web
site at www.unicef.org.uk.
