"I don't think players would go out on the field with the intention of injuring a

"It was tougher to work all year round with the club, then lose at almost the last
hurdle. I won't know how it feels before the tournament starts. I have to make do by
watching the World Cup on television. We've been hit hard and losing Steven Gerrard
just before the squad left was a big blow,"

at claims he is seeking move

"I am not a mercenary. I want to keep my image at Real Madrid clean. I do not want to
dirty my image in Spain. On Monday afternoon I spoke with someone about any interest I
may have in moving to Manchester United. Then it is in the Spanish papers that I have
made this up. I did no such thing. I was told that they are interested in signing me.
But I am very happy and have not thought about leaving Madrid. I have a very good
relationship with the club president, Florentino Perez, and all my dealings with him
are correct and sincere. I have a contract and I am happy in the city and at Real
Madrid. I do not know if the clubs are talking. If Real Madrid and Manchester want to,
they can sit down to speak about a transfer that could happen. I am not going to put
up any obstacles. When they come to an agreement, I will join in. Manchester United
have been making inquiries about me for two years. Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken to me
on occasions and I am aware that I am a player he likes!

... Dream Team MiniLeague. It closes when World Cup kicks off at 12:30 Friday.

There have been plenty of entries - but lost of you haven't put your tema in the RED
NEWS minileague and after Kick Off it'll be too late (I think).
[1] Go to this page (the following web address finishing with "....ENGLISH&aff_id=57"
should be pasted into your web browser all on one line if your email reader splits it
into two lines):

http://www.dreamteamfc.com/Sun/servlet/OpenFSELogin?homename=WC2002&language=ENGLISH&aff_id=57

[2] If you haven't already entered a team or you want to add more then click on
"REGISTER". [It costs a fiver - there are £100,000 in prizes but lets face it, its for
a laugh as the chances of winning are pretty low.]

Once you have registered your team (or teams),

[3] Log in by entering your PIN (12 digit code sent to you in the confirmation email)
and hitting "Go To My Team". If you can't find your PIN number then click on the "Lost
your PIN?" link underneath and enter the email address you used to register with so
that you can request it to be sent to you again. If you did not pay by credit card you
may need to get your PIN from the Premium Rate phone number - don't know about this as
we didn't use it?

[4] Once you've logged in, click on the "Join Mini League" button.

[5] Enter the league name and password we've listed below and your team will
automatically be assigned to the RED NEWS Mini League.

Your Mini League name is:
RED NEWS

Your Mini League password is:
REDBUTTOCK

That should be it.

If you want to invite any mates to join (less than 4 days to go) then you can copy
this email to them and tell them to register at the web address above and then follow
the instructions.

PROBLEMS:
We probably can't help with technical queries relating to the Dream Team game as we
don't run it but mail us if you think we might be able to help at:

[39] United kid on the move?

Dunfermline want 20 year old Alan McDermott.

Their manager Jimmy Calderwood

"He is one of the names in the frame. We are looking for a centre-half for next season
and he is one of three or four names. We haven't spoken to the club because I'm still
really just looking for information. The people I know, who know him, are on holiday
at the moment so I'll have to wait until they return. I've never seen him play and I
don't know his qualities."

Sounds confusing.

[38] Fergie on England's chances
---------------------------------
Posted Thursday, May 30, 2002 by bar-knee:
"It looks to me a really difficult tournament. In the Far East with the humidity and
different types of pitches, teams are going to depend a lot on their major players
staying fit. For instance right away France have Zidane injured and that's a blow to
them. England have not been short of their own problems with Steven Gerrard not making
it, Kieron Dyer still unsure of his fitness, Nicky Butt just coming back, David
Beckham just coming back. The question mark about England is how fit Butt, Dyer and
Beckham are going to be. I am confident about Butt and Beckham because I know them. I
not sure what state or condition Dyer is in. That has got to be resolved as midfield
is a key area for England. It is not going to be easy for England but in Michael Owen
they've always got someone who is likely to score a goal. That's a big hope for them.
It is going to be a hard tournament to win because of the conditions and fitness is
going to be a vital factor. No-one is quite sure what the Wo!
rld Cup will be like in Japan and Korea but from my own experience it won't be easy.
"I think England will miss Gary Neville at right-back. That's a big loss to them. I
wouldn't be surprised to see Hargreaves playing there instead. Everyone has been
impressed with the way he's played in the friendlies. We were impressed by him when he
played against us."

Cue a United bid?

"The reception has been amazing. I was looking forward to it because I knew what it
was like when I came on a club tour with United a year ago. The rest of the players
have a good laugh about it to be honest. We drive to training and there's 20 Japanese
people chasing the coach shouting 'Beckham' or (Michael) 'Owen.' It's a good feeling."
