In all of this discussion back and forth here is a thought that may not have
yet been entertained as a counter "argument" of sorts. I'm a laboratory
scientist and also work for the government. If there were something to all of
this I think I'd have heard of it. Any way, here goes (and you ol
You are right, Joseph, it isn't the goverenment. Governmant officials are but
pawns. Take, for instance, Woodrow Wilson. He signed the Federal Reserve Act
of 1913. A year later, he admitted that he had done probably the worst thing
he could have done while in office by signing it.

Even after years at my dealers, I've yet to have to repair / replace a starter
clutch on a 550/650/700 SC. Your description is of one that failed. They are
located deep within... Remove engine, disassemble, etc. Now let's slow down a
bit. Since they are almost indestructible, what happened to yo

Okay, before I get started here, I just want to say that I don't want to
hear a WORD from any of you people who get to ride your motorcycles
year-round. That just isn't fair!! :)
Having said that, today was the day the bike finally went into it's winter
hibernation. Only about 42 degrees today but
I can't answer your question any more than that. Try to answer mine. If it
worked recently, why not now ? It only takes a small effort to engage the
starter clutch, even an almost dead battery will engage it. To have one that
does not, is more than rare. If I wrote a list of the top one hundred
I started mine. Gets to the mid 50's here during the day, below freezing after
dark sets in. These old bones don't like cold much anymore. But you're right
about dressing for it. I have all the right "stuff" for a cold weather ride but
it is a PITA to put on, take off.

I put 140 miles on mine the other day zooming around Houston looking for a
new winter jacket so I can retire the Ski jacket. Does that count as
winterizing? (The next day wore my mesh jacket and put 160 miles on it to go
to BestBuy;)

I Winterized my Nighthawk Last Week. I to like Paul dump a whole can
of Seafoam in my Fuel Tank before filling it up for Winter but this
year I drained my Fuel Tank to Flush it out over the Winter. Looking
in it with a Flashlight I see I have a little Surface Rust in some
spots in of my Fuel Tank
No Kyle! That DOESN'T count! [?]

I had trouble removing that screen from the tank on my 650. Turned out the
plastic had splintered and the screen was ripped. When the plastic
splintered it was holding against the inside of the opening so I couldn't
pull it out. Finally vice grips and a few firm firm tugs got it removed. I
