Next time you buy gas divide the number of miles ridden by the number of
gallons purchased. That's your mileage, multiply that by the number of
gallons your tank holds and that's your range. On these bikes 100miles on
the trip is a good time to start looking for gas stations. Hard to look cool

Yes, but when the previous owner doesn't even remember approximately how many
miles he got on a tank it's a little hard on where to start. I do agree using
the trip as a guage is good but as you said " I'd rather have two methods of
checking my fuel level than one.."

On the bottom of the tank you'll see 4 nuts holding on a plate. That's your
sending unit. Make sure the tank is empty first though or you're going to
make a mess ;)

Another one of those 'reality tips from the road' - I don't have a gas
gauge so I don't have an option, but I always reset the trip meter in
my car when I fill up - I'd rather have two methods of checking my
fuel level than one. So even if you get the gauge working, remember to
reset your trip mete

I'll take a stab at the gas sending unit. Basically there is a float
and if it has a hole in it then it will fill up and not float. Also
they work by sliding a plate over a coil of wire that is progressively
wound closer. As the plate slides from closely wound wire to sparsely
wound wire the resist

Or just let the clutch out to the friction point. If you can feel it
beginning to engage, you're in gear.

Then it's easy to get at, try tapping the carb bowl, loosening and
retightening the overflow screw. Try another ride, put seafoam in the

the drain pipes, one at the bottom of each carb are overflow. They
originally had 12 -18 inch tubes that ran to the back of the motor
and down (to drain). More importantly, one leaking fuel probably
means a float is sticking. Try tapping that carb bowl with a screw
driver. If that doesn't
