it looks pretty similar to my 92 Nighthawk I've got in bits, when look at
the 83 550 parts diagram. Has the same type of seal then the needle
bearing, and that's it. Looking at it I can see how wear on the shaft and
needle bearing could allow oil to get through easily. Hope this helps.

McMaster doesn't carry metric chrome fasteners, sadly.
SOME Ace Hardware locations stock chrome plated fasteners. The one local to
me even has metric chrome bolts!
I don't pay much attention to the chrome selection, as it's not my thing;
stainless and nickel are more my style.
