It is a slow process to find these for me. But thanks loads. And it

I posted a bad result. Retested the armature, and it is bad, shorted. I
have ordered in a new starter! Sorry about the bad data, the starter is
bad. The rest of it is wiring harness, which I have now been checking
carefully, found a few loose wires at connectors in the headlight area, so

If your brushes looked anything like mine did in these pics you might need
a rebuild kit. It's from a 700S but you should be able to use it as a guide
for your 450.

I pulled starter off of the bike. I cracked it open and cleaned the
brushes with alcohol. I did not try jumping the starter to known good
battery. I will attempt that next, as my circuit trace got the tail lights
back up and the blinkers suddenly started working!

I did not try it outside. I could still do that. I just cleaned it up,
but I could not find a good 60mmx1.4mm o-ring so I loosely bolted it in to
try to make it turn. Solenoid clicked only, but button for starting works!

PS my brake lights are out in back also.

When you say you pulled the starter and cleaned it up, do you mean
externally or internally? Did you crack it open and check on the brushes?
Did you try jumping the starter to a known good battery to see if it would
spin?

Now it does click at the solenoid. The brakes lights in back do not work.
Headlight does not work, but oil pressure sensor does work, neutral sensing
switch not working. How does all this "randdom" parts failure occur? It
all worked last Fall on my last ride. Fuses all good.

I pulled the starter, and cleaned it up. All tests for continuity are
okay. No shorts.

Allen,
I will pull the starter. I think your this is the correct route to
diagnosis. I was just dreading finding all the wrenches etc.

It was not in gear for the test, but you bring up a good point. The bike
starts while in gear or not, if you just pull the clutch in!

If shorting the solenoid while in neutral doesn't cause it to turn over I'd
pull the starter motor and test it next. This has been a common problem the
past few weeks as folks are pulling their bikes out of winter storage.

Take a screw driver and jumper the posts on the solenoid. If the starter
cranks her over then it is probably the solenoid.

Hellow everyone,
I have an 82 Honda Nighthawk, which has started fine until recently. Now
it does not click at all and does not start. I thought it was the
pushbutton on the handlebar so I bought a new-used pushbutton, but that
does not work at all! It does not even click. Voltages are 12.5 vol
