[Nighthawk Lovers] Forks feel stiff after new seals

Anyone encounter this? I replaced the seals myself for the first one and made sure to clean everything really well. Used simple green and a bit of water to clean the tubes and stanchions. Everything went back together correctly. I wasn't sure what side was up on the fork seals so I just stuck th

How much air pressure did you use? 20 miles is more than enough to get the fluid distributed IMHO. I've never noticed a difference between first filled and later on. Allen Thomas -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. T

I bled all the air off the forks and they still feel a bit stiff. Think I'll try putting the spec amount of fluid in tonight and see if that helps. At first I had the forks raised up in the triple tree about 3cm. Maybe that made them stiff. I've since dropped them to spec but haven't been able t

Adding fluid won't make them softer, and moving them in the clamps won't either it will just affect turn in like we discussed earlier. Someone probably replaced the fork springs with heavier units. But then again you said that you were getting 40mm of sag which sounds like they are appropriately si

Oh and air pressure is a preference thing but usually between 5 and 15 psi. The air acts like a second adjustable spring. Allen Thomas -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Nighthawk Motorcycle Lovers!" group. To unsubscribe from this group and stop recei

I put in progressive springs a while back so there are most certainly stiffer springs in there at the moment. Who knows. Once I get this stud fiasco straightened out hopefully I can get some miles on her figure this out. I'm kinda thinking maybe I did put something back in or on wrong. Maybe I j

The progressive spring are usually longer than the originals, so you need to put a smaller spacer on top. Mines came with a couple of pvc pipes for one to measure and cut at the desire length. Did you do that? I remember I skipped that part, and installed the progressive spring with no modification

I seriously doubt that the forks would work at all if you assembled them wrong. The bolt on the bottom simply holds the damper in place and prevents the fork legs from separating. Also previous dirty fluid has no bearing as long as you cleaned. The parts when you had it apart. Personally I think yo

http://imgur.com/a/jM2i2 Do these bushings look bad? Like maybe I should have replaced them and didn't. I really don't think they look too bad. I remember specifically the book said to put the washers on flange side up. Which I'm assuming means the "rounded" side goes down/ the concave side up.

I personally replace them if I'm going to take the trouble to disassemble a set of forks. To answer your question do they look bad, one side looks OK and the other need replacing. I suspect the fork that leaked was dry and that is why it has more wear on the slider bushings. Even still worn slider

I'd suggest using new seals. They are cheap. You would be pissed to put it all back together and then have them leak again. I would make that a winter task and just ride the bike as much as you can while the weather is nice. On Tue, Sep 8, 2015 at 9:17 AM, Alexander Press wrote: > Can I pull th
