I pinched the hose and cut a one square inch off the gas cap seal.
Rides better than ever with no problems.

Background story: When I bought the bike the evap system was gone but
the vent line was blocked off. I would ride and the bike would
eventually stall because a vacuum developed in the tank. Until I found
the blocked vent tube, I lived with the problem by openi
Thanks for the response Unfortunately the replacement tank did not
have the cap. I am using the cap that was on the original (evap
system) tank.
Is there a way to modify the cap? Or should I start looking for a
vented cap?

My 450's evaporative control system was removed by the previous owner
and the bike runs fine. If you are re-using your old cap make sure it
is vented. The cap on the california models is supposed to seal tight
and the tank is vented through the evap system.
