Hi, I left them in the mixture for 3 days. I did two at a time (4 cylinder
750 Nighthawk) had only 800cc of mixture. They do swell up some. I used 99%
alcohol since I read from other experiments that water in 70% alcohol would
make them swell more. I let them rest after for a week as mentionned
Eric, just go with what Kyle said. I did the mixture with the alcohol and
wintergreen. Yes it did soften them up after 3-4 days. They also swelled.
Problem is they will go back to being firm again after a week. Plus the
wintergreen oil is not cheap. Just heat them up with a heat gun or maybe a
Thanks for the tip, how long did you leave yours in the mixture for?

They come up on eBay from time to time, but they're all going to be just as
old as yours. Some are soft some are hardened. I've always just heated mine
with a blow dryer to soften them up before reinstalling.

This one is not in SoCal, but a local salvage yard here in town just
took in (literally less than a week ago) an '85 Nighthawk that looked
all original. Its called Steele's Cycles. I talked to the staff and
they were planning to throw it on ebay but told me if I call down
there they will hold
yep the ptd.net is my address Kyle. A Magna part would look better
on a NH than a Suzuki part with less chance of rejection as well,

Join the club.
Left hand side covers are relatively inexpensive on ebay. Right hand
side covers are few and far between. Right now there's one at $150 on
ebay (with a day and change.)

Sorry Graham, I thought I responded yesterday. I brought the bike to
my brother's yesterday and he has a spare for his Magna, which fits
the Nighthawk. So I won't need it, but thanks. Is this address the one
I should Paypal the $$ to? (the ptd.net one)

The salvage yard I use Houston usually has those types of items. I'm still
stuck in Cleveland though so you can try calling them if you like.
