IMHO, 'local' should be within 'reasonable commute' distance. 30 to 50 miles outside Davidson county should cover a fairly reasonable distance to be able to work without getting temporary housing in the area. Just my thoughts. I am not active working, so take my comment with a block of salt.

[nlug] further question about job posts

Would a local computer-related job post be acceptable, even if it isn't strictly a Linux position? A lot of network-related jobs involve supporting a mix of operating systems, not just Linux. You are also likely to see some programming positions on other environments, such as Windows, Android,

Obviously, Franklin and Brentwood are "local" being part of the metro area along with Murfreesboro and even Lebanon. Chattanooga has its own LUG. But I would think that the what we call the "middle TN area" should be fair game. Michael On Wed, Jun 28, 2017 at 4:17 PM, John F. Eldredge

How broadly should we define "local"? Would a job opening in Jackson, TN, or Chattanooga, be too far away? Should we restrict it to jobs in counties adjoining Davidson County? A lot of tech firms are opening offices in Franklin and Brentwood. -- John F. Eldredge -- j...@jfeldredge.com On

I agree with Kent 100%. The issue here is that a "cable pulling job in Rhode Island" is generically a tech job and has no geographic relevance to the Nashville area. There are thousands of job openings within a 1500 mile radius of Nashville that are tech related and fit that general form, so if

No, I think job posts should be welcome, if they are relevant to the list. A job post should have something to do with Linux and either be a local job or a remote position. This post fulfills none of these requirements. My $0.02. Kent On Wed, Jun 28, 2017 at 3:46 PM, John F. Eldredge

Agreed w/Curt. I don't think job-opening posts should be banned, but some kind of geographic relevance -or- something more personal (example: former local who moved out of state & is sharing additional openings with their new employer) seems to be reasonable requisites. On Wed, Jun 28, 2017 at
