The following patch is a fix to the second bug I described in my message
to the list on 1st September (see

Because I regard this as a bug fix, I'll commit it to CVS unless anyone
complains first.

If the only compelling reason to switch to Maildir from MH is the
file locking semantics, why not fix MH?
For me there's another compelling reason and that's the ability to use MH
directly on a mail server
