BTW, I might note that vesa is being loaded... perhaps that's upsetting things,
although I'm not sure if that would do it.

Perhaps if you provide a dmesg, it will become apparent why nouveau didn't
load. Can't really tell that from the xorg log... it's just obvious that
nouveau isn't loaded.
