occasions and does not point at the actual issue at hand.

With 2.6.34-rc1 the X server starts.
The kernel also says in the log that it has version 0.0.16 of the nouveau drm
module.

Update to lastest git, there is no need to install firmware (nouveau tree or
kernel 2.6.34-rc1+).
