Just do this for basic controller-2-switch connectivity

Controller
$ ifconfig eth0 10.10.0.2 netmask 255.0.0.0 up
ping from both from Controller and switch machines. You will be able to
conenct each other.

$ sudo iptables -F
$ sudo route
Will tell you the routing table is present or not.
Its because of beasic network connectivity is not there between hosts, that
you use.
