   Helo Philip
I thought about this myself when Barry asked about the NPS lending out
D drills. I was Hon Sec just before the time Colin and David B turned
to full time making and do not recall any instance of advertising the
loan of these drills nor being aware of any request for them.
I do recall, however, being one of a number of people warmly
wlecomed to use lathes, D drills etc. in Colin R's garage (before he
had a dedicated workshop) and being given instruction in the use of
this equipment followed by the oportunity to make the G chanter that
Carole used on "Cut & Dry Dolly" and a set of very long (3 section) D
drones playing from very low D through low A up to what is
normally bottom D. This experimentation was encouraged and supervised
over many weeks by Colin in the early 70s, with all offers of monetary
recompense politely refused! It would not surprise me to learn that the
NPS itself was not active in lending our D drills but that Colin did on
an ad hoc basis to fellow enthusiasts.
   Cheers
   Anthony
