after processing your file graph1_mp.mp by typing
$mpost graph1_mp.mp (or: mp graph1_mp.mp)
you should get a file graph1_mp.1 (if the figure is numbered by
beginfig(1) ).
Then you can convert this file by typing
$mptopdf graph1_mp.1

While trying to get some MetaPost plots converted to PDF, with the
latest ConTeXt minimals installation (MkIV) on my Linux box, things
happen which I don't understand, sorry!
First I run the command:
mtxrun --script
which yields:
