You are correct. My question was more if 2008 or 2008 R2 was required for Exchange 2010. Since only 2003 is required, and since my current DC's are on 32 bit architecture, I would either move them up to 2008, or get 64 bit architecture (which I need for Exchange 2010 anyway) and put 2008 R2 on it.

Exchange 2010 requires DCs to be at least Server 2003 SP2 along with domain and forest functional levels of at least Windows Server 2003, so Server 2008 DCs are not required.
