The 2008 firewall is conservative. In my experience, if it's turned off, no
traffic is allowed inbound. So, you can't RDP into because your firewall won't
start up to allow traffic in.

If you run VIPRE Rescue with the /deep option, I believe it will scan all
drives, not just the boot drive. But, I don't know if it does root kit checks
on the non-boot drives.

My first guess would be you are enabling packet filtering. Open up the RRAS
control panel, expand IP Routing, select General. You'll get a list of
interfaces, right click on your adapter (probably called Local Area Connection,
unless you've renamed it) and select Properties. Click on the Inbound
All of my XP VMs were set up with the Buslogic driver, I don't recall having
the use F6 and a driver disk to setup the machines, but sadly, that doesn't
mean I didn't... But, if you have the correct driver disk, you should be able
to use either controller, that I am sure of.
