Thanks for your help. HP replaced the motherboard. Everything is sweet. My server is backup and humming. Just for interest, I did restore the system state to another machine. Worked and at least allowed my users could authenticate and access other network resources. For anyone who restores the sys

Um - you did have more than one DC didn't you? If so just run dcpromo on the member server. If not you should be able to restore the most recent backup. You should do a full restore to bare metal. Some backup s/w can do a restore to dissimilar hardware. Kirk Kirk Woloshyn 2825 Temple Avenue S
