Are you talking about the virus scan that you can run in BE? If so you can
disable it under the Advanced tab in Backup Properties.

Using BE8.5 to backup three NT servers on LAN. The nightly job is taking
alot longer than it use to. The backup failed last night because of a dodgy
tape. When I have rerun the backup this morning I have noticed that the
backup scan is taking about an hour.
a. What is the backup scan and can I disable it.
b. Could it be looking for a share that doesn't exist etc...
