Could it be that the machine is on a KVM switch? There are some KVM
switches
which will not detect keyboard/mouse if the switch is not on that machine's
channel during POST check

error on the machine (kbd port disabled)? Could the mouse & keyboard cables
be swapped? Was the keyboard plugged in after the machine was powered up (I've
seen kbd controllers zapped this
