Checked network already everything is fine there, this machine is coasting
even during heavy login/logout times, so load/resources is rather unlikely
and yes, we've already looked at that possibility. It's an HP with dual
Zeon 2.80 GHz processors with 3GB RAM.
It's just very odd that this started

On the domain controller that we are having the issue with, I do see errors of
DNS time outs in the event log during that time-frame.

Could be a lot of things - resource issues, network issues
(speed/duplex/wan/etc), load issues, firewall problems...
Given your other symptoms I'm thinking resources or load.
